This story is set in the 1800s in Hesperus, Colorado. The Dobson family are left motherless after the death of wife and mother. Benjamin, age ten, does the best he can to cook and clean for the family while their father tends their small mercantile store. Sarah, age seven, mends clothes and helps as she can. Luke, the five year old, simply gets into mischief. Their father, Thomas Dobson, feels that the time has come for the children to get a new mother. As such, he sends for a mail order bride – or momma – for his children. Olga travels from Sweden to meet the young family. The boys, Ben and Luke, don’t want a new mother; Sarah does. When Ben finds out that “Ugly Olga” doesn’t have to stay if she’s not happy, he and Luke make plans to ensure that she is miserable.
This is a captivating story of a young woman’s courage to come to a new country to be a mother to three little children, and the circumstances that melt the hearts of the youngsters. Your heart will melt, too.

Lovely warm short story of mail order Momma from Sweden. How difficult it was a beginning for children to accept a new momma.
